The Importance of User Experience (UX) in Website Development

What is UX? 

Let’s start off with that the term is. You cannot have a good UX without a good UI. UI means User Interface whereas UX means User Experience. Basically UI refers to the screens, buttons, toggles, icons, and other visual elements that you interact with when using a website, app, or other electronic devices. UX refers to the entire interaction you have with a product, including how you feel about the interaction.

Why is it so important? 

When it comes to any project, be it a website, mobile application or even a website revamp, UI and UX is arguably (and trust me we have had many such arguments at Beyond) the most important factor that could singlehandedly determine the success of the project and define the praises of the end user/target audience. 

Think about it, if you visit a website and the content on that website is really good, but the font is quite difficult to read, the colours used are gaudy and the overall page navigation is an absolute task, would you revisit the website? If you answered yes, you should probably stop reading now. Or just stop reading, period, it won’t help you. I kid, of course, but the fact of the matter is that you probably wouldn’t want to revisit that website because you had an overall bad experience on it. That is the defining factor. 

How well your UI/UX designer can understand the project at hand, identify the target audience, get into their headspace and then tailor the website according to the information they gather is absolutely vital to the success of the website. 

Everyone wins with a brilliant UX 

Building websites with a brilliant UX is a win-win situation for all parties involved.  Your company will gain a name for making some stellar websites, your clients will be happy and come back to you for all their future web projects and your client’s customers will be extremely happy and keep visiting the website. In conclusion, not many people can build amazing websites because it is really quite difficult. Not only does the code have to be sound, but your UX has to be on point as well or it isn’t going to work. The best way to go about that is by completely understanding the task at hand, it’s intended audience and your client. Even if it takes asking 1,000 questions, do it. It really is that important. As long as this is done, you will always end up with a kick-a… website, we promise!
